Kilimanjaro Routes
The Rongai Route
A Remote Kilimanjaro Adventure
If you are seeking a less-travelled path, the Rongai Route offers a unique climb to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. It approaches from the quieter northeastern side along the border between Tanzania and Kenya. This route provides a rare sense of wilderness and solitude, allowing climbers to experience Kilimanjaro from a different perspective, far from the crowds on the southern slopes.
One of the quietest routes on the mountain, Rongai offers a peaceful and scenic ascent, though it eventually joins the busier Marangu Route near Kibo Hut. Despite the longer journey to the starting point, the adventure is well worth it for those seeking a more secluded climb. The descent follows the Marangu Route, but climbers sleep in tents, preserving the sense of adventure and connection with the mountain’s rugged beauty.
