Climb Kilimanjaro

Rongai Route Duration – 6 Days

The Rongai Route: A Unique Approach to Kilimanjaro

The Rongai route is the only trail that approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the north, near the Kenyan border. While it is gaining popularity, the Rongai route still experiences low traffic, making it an excellent choice for those seeking a more remote hike compared to the crowded Marangu route. It’s particularly suitable for climbers during the rainy season, as the north side receives less precipitation.

The minimum number of days required for this route is six, though seven days are recommended for better acclimatization. Although the scenery may not be as varied as on the western routes, Rongai compensates with its journey through true wilderness areas for several days before merging with the Marangu route at Kibo Camp.

The descent follows the Marangu route, offering a different perspective of the mountain. Rongai is a moderately difficult route and is highly recommended, especially for those with less backpacking experience. This route provides a unique and serene Kilimanjaro climbing experience, perfect for those looking to escape the crowds and enjoy the natural beauty of the mountain.
