Climb Kilimanjaro
Rongai Route Duration – 7 Days
The Only Northern Approach to Kilimanjaro
The Rongai route offers a unique adventure as the only path approaching Kilimanjaro from the north, near the Kenyan border. While it’s becoming more popular among climbers, Rongai remains a low-traffic option. It’s the perfect choice for those seeking a less crowded alternative to the Marangu route, a more remote hiking experience, or a climb during the rainy season when the north side gets less precipitation.
This route requires at least six days, though seven days are recommended for a more relaxed and enjoyable trek. Although the scenery may not be as varied as the western routes, Rongai compensates with its journey through true wilderness areas, providing a serene and unspoiled landscape for days before joining the Marangu route at Kibo camp.
Descending via the Marangu route, Rongai offers a moderately challenging trek that is particularly well-suited for those with less backpacking experience. This route is highly recommended for its unique perspective on Kilimanjaro, combining the thrill of the climb with the beauty of untouched nature.
