Climb Kilimanjaro
Marangu Route Duration – 5 Days
The Marangu Route: Your Path to Adventure
Known affectionately as the “Coca-Cola route,” the Marangu route is one of the most popular ways to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Many hikers favour this route, considering it the easiest path to Uhuru Peak. With the unique option to complete the trek in just five days, it’s also the most budget-friendly choice. It’s the only route that offers cosy accommodation in charming A-frame huts.
However, it’s important to note that the 5-day Marangu route has one of the lowest summit success rates. We strongly recommend extending your hike to 6 days to boost your chances of reaching the top. This extra day allows for better acclimatization, increasing your likelihood of a successful summit.
What sets the Marangu route apart is its comfort. You’ll enjoy communal sleeping huts at every overnight stop equipped with beds and mattresses. Mineral water, soft drinks, beer, and chocolates are available at most sites to make your climb even more enjoyable.
The Marangu route follows the same path for the ascent and descent, ensuring a familiar and well-trodden trail. Embrace the adventure and comfort of the Marangu route as you embark on your journey to the top of Africa’s highest peak.

The views along the way are breathtaking, offering incredible sights at every turn.
Capture the moment with a summit photo to share with friends and family. After soaking in the unparalleled scenery, you’ll begin your descent. You’ll stop at Kibo Hut for lunch and a rest before continuing down to Horombo Hut.
The initial part of this climb is done in darkness, so headlamps or flashlights are essential. It will be very cold until you descend, so wear all your warm layers. This is the most challenging part of the climb, filled with many switchbacks. Remember to go slowly—“pole pole”—and keep a positive attitude. You’ve got this!
