Central and Northern Serengeti Wildebeest Migration

The Serengeti, named from the Maasai word “seringit,” meaning “endless plains,” hosts the awe-inspiring Great Wildebeest Migration. Over two million wildebeests, zebras, and antelope travel over 450 miles across these vast plains, driven by survival instincts.

They face numerous perils as they journey, including stalking lions and cheetahs. The dramatic crossing of the Mara River marks their entry into Serengeti National Park, a place of untamed beauty and adventure.

The Serengeti is not just about migration; it’s a sprawling game park, home to Africa’s legendary Big Five. Witnessing this migration is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, showcasing nature’s raw power and beauty.

Migration Movement

From July to October, witness the migration of millions of wildebeests and zebras from Northern Serengeti to Masai Mara. The dramatic crossing of the Mara River is a sight to behold. Depending on the weather, these animals may migrate to Masai Mara and return to Serengeti multiple times, moving in an unpredictable yet mesmerizing pattern.

From October to mid-December, the migration shifts from Masai Mara back to Northern Serengeti, traversing the scenic regions of Loliondo and Lobo. This continuous movement showcases these animals’ incredible resilience and adaptability.
